Biggest Wedding Regrets

Regrets suck.  Especially when it comes to your big day!  Each couple that I work with requires their own unique needs and wants for their wedding day.  However, when I recently polled my Facebook community, I noticed there was an overwhelming similar theme when it came to wedding day regrets.

Here are the top three wedding day regrets from local couples:

  1. Not hiring a videographer.    Y’all seriously .. hire a videographer!!  I tell my couples all the time that this was one of the best decisions I made for my wedding.  The cliche that “your wedding day goes by in a flash” is true.  There are so many aspects of your wedding day that you will miss and having the video is something that you’ll treasure for the rest of your life.
  2. Not hiring a wedding coordinator.  I promise I didn’t make this one up ;).  I received several responses noting that they wish they would have hired a wedding coordinator to assist with vendor selections, wedding day logistics and a “go to” person on the wedding day.  Just FYI, I know someone who provides all of those services … http://cincyweddingsbymaura.com/services/
  3. Less family formals.  Obviously you’ll want the standard family photos with your siblings, parents and grandparents but really think twice about whether or not you need formals with everyone else you’ve ever met.  What photos you will actually take the time to print and frame after your wedding?  The time on your wedding day is precious, make each moment count!  (If you do have a large family formal list, we suggest taking these photos immediately following the wedding ceremony and try to let as many people know beforehand as possible.  This will streamline the process!).

Did you have any regrets on your wedding day?  If so, we would love to hear them so we can keep adding to this list!  Email us at info@cincyweddingsbymaura.com

Rehearsal Dinner Etiquette

Photo: Lane Baldwin Photography

Rehearsal dinners are intended to jumpstart the wedding weekend festivities.  Traditionally, an invitation to the rehearsal dinner was typically extended to the bridal party and all out of town guests.  As wedding costs rise and guest lists expand, this rule is no longer feasible.  I get the question from couples ALL THE TIME about how to navigate their rehearsal dinner guest list.

Here are a few fun options that won’t cause any hurt feelings or make you break the bank!

  1. Host a small intimate dinner with your immediate family and bridal party (+ their dates) only.  Afterwards, invite the out of town guests to meet up with you at a local bar.
  2. Host a welcome party with beer/wine only and some hors d’ oeuvres for all out of town guests.
  3.  Host a dinner buffet at someone’s home.  I love the idea of catering in from a great local barbecue spot or your favorite Mexican restaurant!

Keep in mind that the main goal of the rehearsal dinner is for the two families to have a chance to get to know one another in a relaxed environment before the big day!

Hope this helps relieve your rehearsal dinner anxieties!
